Culture: Paris under the spotlight

This year marks the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and the City of Lights is living up to its reputation in great style.  The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Opera, and the many famous bridges, in total 340 sites, are illuminated every night by thousands of lights, according to Augustin de Romanet, President and Director General of Groupe ADP, (formerly Aéroports de Paris or ADP, is an international airport operator based in Paris.)

Paris' pride: the iconic Eiffel tower and art nouveau street lights.

Romanet said in the Paris Vous Aime magazine, Spring 2024 edition, that the challenge now is to continue to innovate to achieve energy efficiency while still enhancing Paris' architectural heritage.  One solution is to use artificial intelligence AI to optimise street lighting.

The illuminated Eiffel Tower can be viewed across the capital.

The First Deputy Mayor of Paris Emmanuel Gregoire believes that  the challenge facing Paris is to continue the transition to energy efficiency, from simply enhancing the architectural heritage of public buildings to enhancing the daily comfort of Parisians.  "We are at the forefront of the ecological transition.  We are going to change all our public lighting to LEDs, which will consume half the energy," said Gregoire.
