Cycle friendly Tokyo Bike x Ally Capellino backpack

Following the successful launch of the Ally Capellino x tokyobike backpack last year the brand are excited to introduce two new colourways.

The backpack combines simple, functional design with cycle friendliness. The fabric is a light-weight showerproof nylon featuring a reflective strip and a space to attach a rear light, while internally there is a neat laptop sleeve.

Its available in two new colours: orange and navy, that pair with tokyobike frame colours for 2017.   Pick one up at tokyobike stores in London and Tokyo or online.

About tokyobike

tokyobike is a small, independent bicycle company founded in 2002 in the quiet Tokyo suburb of Yanaka.  The name was derived from the design of the bikes.  In the same way the mountain bike was designed for the mountains so tokyobike was designed for Tokyo.

Smaller 650mm wheels and slim, compact, steel frames make the bikes easy to handle and light to ride. Based on the concept of ‘Tokyo Slow’, tokyobike believe it’s as much about the journey as the destination.

tokyobike stores can be found in an increasing number of cultural cities around the world and the company regularly collaborates with brands that share a similar outlook.

Stylish cycling helmets for the fashion-minded

Calling all fashion-conscious cyclists.   These flattering helmets embody the spirit of heritage design while being theft-proof.

They form part of the new Epoch helmet line by California company Thousand Helmets - creators of classically-designed bicycle helmets - marking the company’s second anniversary.

According to co-founder Gloria Hwang, a long-time cyclist herself, these helmets have been designed as a stylish alternative to traditional bulky headgear that people would want to wear.

They are also guaranteed against theft in that if your helmet gets stolen while securely locked to your bike, Thousand will replace it.  There is a secret Poplock System to keep the helmets secured to your bike.

Designed with air vents and cooling channels that provide optimum airflow, they come complete with vegan leather straps playing for an eco-friendly ethos.

From what started as a mission to simply get more people wearing helmets and a fascination with heritage design and iconic stories from the past, Thousand continues to pay homage to their signature Heritage Collection of helmets that are the crossroads of vintage moto and modern minimal.
“We wanted to tell our story authentically and felt that our second anniversary was an opportunity to progress our brand,” notes Gloria. “We believe that the story behind the product is as important as the product.”
The Epoch line embodies an expression of a time in history or a person’s life, with the new collection inspired by the past tales of Steve McQueen and the iconic Bel Air Cadillac as well as the Nordic Modernism.  These stories are a nod to the past and were influential and inspirational to the product development team.

The new Epoch colours are Speedway Creme, Willowbrook Mint, and Nordic Wood, which is created by a colour water dipped technology. Advanced features include vegan leather straps, copper hardware and the signature PopLock system that allows the cyclists to easily lock the helmet to the bike as well as a magnetic buckle for a one-hand fastener that’s pinch-free.

Thousand is committed to help curb the impact of bike accidents, promote active and community living, and make quality product without causing unnecessary harm to the planet.  As a member and committed to the “1% for the Planet” organization, where the proceeds go towards environmental causes that help contribute to a healthy planet.

Abundant blooms and tropical foliage from Terrarium's wallpaper collection

Now that the temperature is warming up with the promise of summer, it may be a good time to update our interiors to reflect an optimistic mood.

Independent luxury lifestyle and accessories brand Terrarium known for its colourful nature-inspired product range has got a new collection of wallpaper that brings the beauty of nature into the home.
Hothouse wallpaper.

Hothouse wallpaper.
Terrarium designer and founder Sophie Thompson whose unique design style is inspired by botanical narratives, has captured the abundance of colourful blooms alongside the lush tropical folliage in the Hothouse range, inspired by the orchid exhibition at London's prestigious Kew gardens in which the tropical glasshouses are filled with a vast variety of beautiful flowers.

Glasshouse wallpaper.

Another popular design is the bold and bright tropical Glasshouse design featuring foliage, insects and botanical plant labels, also inspired by the beautiful glasshouses at Kew Gardens and the layered leafy environment confined within this steamy glass structure.

Flowers and Cooling Tower
Meanwhile the Flowers and Cooling Tower wallpaper shows off blooms that grow in and around coal-fired power stations and electricity pylons giving it an industrial twist.  The contrast posed between nature and a manmade environment also fires up an intriguing effect.

The wallpapers are digitally printed in the UK on a non-woven supple 180gsm paper.  Each roll is 52cm wide with a length of 10 metres per roll.
There are also matching furnishing fabrics and cushions to match the wallpapers for a total look.  More details on the Terrarium Designs website.

Happiness is ...Chocolates made from the finest!

A question that I have heard ever more often nowadays is "are you Happy?"   Whether one's in a restaurant being served or having a gym exercise session, people want to know if we are happy with the experience of the moment.  This apparently simple question usually solicits a simple answer: yes or no.
Clinton's Cocoa Paradise range in attractive nature-inspired packaging offers customers globally-sourced chocolates
in a variety of flavours to suit different tastes.
If one's life is not under threat, and health is not a concern, most people would probably find happiness from the simple pleasures of life, like when the sun is shining brightly, and when one's having a satisfying meal or simply eating chocolates.

Such joy that chocolates can bring to us (me included) that the global chocolate market has become huge today, to the tune of more than US$98 billion a year, according to MarketsandMarkets (M&M),a global market research and consulting company based in the U.S.  Growth of the chocolate industry over the last decade has been driven in large part by an increasing awareness of the health benefits of certain types of chocolate and growing popularity in Asian Pacific countries, according to experts.

So it is welcome news that UK card and gift retailer Clintons has launched its own luxury brand of chocolate, Cocoa Paradise range, available in 12 different varieties, to boost their entrance into the chocolate market. The premium bars packaged in attractive flora and fauna designs are available exclusively in 400 Clintons stores across the nation.

The new venture marks Clintons’ commitment to expanding their confectionery range, as the company aims to capitalise on the thriving chocolate industry, which is expected to continue growing at an annual rate close to 5% until 2020.

The 100g bars are made from cocoa beans sourced from farms around the world including Madagascar, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador and slowly roasted to release their natural flavours. The Madagascan dark chocolate which is made from 70% cocoa beans went on to win an award at the International Chocolate Awards in 2016.

Indeed, understanding happiness is a profound matter, and together with well-being, happiness of the world's population has increasingly seen as important factors for global governments when it comes to developing policies.
According to the 2017 World Happiness Report - launched earlier this year, those countries that have thrived economically and socially have registered the highest level of happiness in the world ranking.
The six indicators for measuring happiness are Freedom, Generosity, Health, Social Support, Income and Trust Worthy Governance.
These indicators show that we should not just judge the success of a country by figures based on GDP growth but by the quality of growth, a view that was emphasised by  the head of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in a recent speech arguing that more attention should be paid to happiness in the world's governments' efforts to achieve both human and sustainable development.
This report gives special attention to the social foundations of happiness for individuals and
nations. The chapter starts with global and regional charts showing the distribution of
answers, from roughly 3000 respondents in each of more than 150 countries, to a question
asking them to evaluate their current lives on a ladder where 0 represents the worst possible life and 10 the best possible.

Although the top ten countries remain the same as last year, there has been some shuffling of
places. Most notably, Norway has jumped into first position, followed closely by Denmark,
Iceland and Switzerland.

This was the fifth such report published since the first World Happiness Report of April, 2012, published in support of the UN High Level Meeting on happiness and well-being. Happiness is increasingly considered the proper measure of social progress and the goal of public policy.

New Warrior not Worrier Collection of Tees and Hoodies

Also available are new Warrior not Worrier iron-on patches are designed to adhere to cotton and denim fabrics.
It's Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 (May 8 - 14), and George Hodgson, founder of Maison de Choup, has announced the launch of a new Warrior not Worrier Collection featuring a range of 6 white understated cool cotton tees: Tear, Breathe, Faces, Resist, Warrior not Worrier (which also comes in yellow) and Light at the End of the Tunnel which has been created in collaboration with mental health blogger and author of "We’re  All Mad Here" Claire Eastham.

George said he wanted to create pieces which show a positive message of hope and demonstrate that we are stronger than our mental health, with 25% of the proceeds from the sale of the Warrior not Worrier t-shirts to be donated to YoungMinds, a UK charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

All Maison de Choup tees and hoodies are made from ethically sourced 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton, designed and made in London.

The Faces range of Tees is intended to express how the face shows contrasts with the crippling anxiety often felt inside the sufferer and how it is sometimes hard to express the emotional pain felt.

Tear is an attempt to express anxiety with a minimal motif which shows that the eye and tear are on different levels. Although tears are not there when sufferers don’t feel too bad they are always there below the surface.

Resist and Breathe are powerful words of support and a reminder for sufferers that other people are aware of what they are going through.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel t-shirt gives out a message of hope showing that anxiety can be conquered and sufferers can learn how to live a normal life with it. This t-shirt was developed in conjunction with award-winning mental health blogger and best-selling author of "We’re  All Mad Here" Claire Eastham.

Claire writes about her own experiences of social anxiety and panic attacks with humour but without resorting to medical jargon.

George Hodgson created Maison de Choup in 2014 out of a crippling anxiety period that nearly ruined his young life.  An artist himself, George, with the support of his family and therapist, gradually turned things around and set up the Maison de Choup online designer fashion label working with a designer and support team.  Through Maison de Choup George financially supports the YoungMinds charity and from June will begin working for them as a paid helper.

It's Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 ...

... and one calls to mind the recent revelation of young members of the British royal family about their struggle of coming to terms with the death of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales as part of the Heads Together mental health campaign.
Good mental health is increasingly a concern in our modern society as a recent report suggests that as many as two out of three adults suffer from mental health problems one way or another, and that younger adults are most vulnerable.

This Mental Health Awareness Week (May 8 - 14), the Mental Health Foundation is going to look at mental health from a new angle. Rather than ask why so many people are living with mental health problems, we will seek to uncover why too few of us are thriving with good mental health.

Launched today is a study called Surviving or Thriving? The state of the UK's mental health and it looks at what we can do about it.

Retro bicycle bar stool add pedal charm to any cool interiors

While the weather is warming up, everyone is finding an excuse to be outside.  In recent years cycling has become a hugely popular national pastime here in the UK for all ages, with the likes of sporting heroes Sir Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy proving as worthy ambassadors of the sport.
Now retro British company Smithers of Stamford based in Cambridgeshire has found a way to bring that cycling passion indoors.

Being a furniture brand, Smithers of Stamford showcase many bicycle themed products and retro furniture, but their vintage bicycle bar stool has to stand out.

Although the Yellow Jersey and a puncture repair kit are not included,  the bike stool - handmade using reclaimed old bike parts - brings loads of pedal driven urban charm.
While enjoying a tall glass of smoothie or that much deserved sun-downer, one can sit comfortably on the tan leather gazelle saddle seat rest our feat on the original pedal. The battered rustic steel leg framework, Federal tyre and even the occasional bike chain will take your interior style up a gear.
