Denim with High Performance attributes from VICUNHA

Good quality denim wear are not just for showcasing our assets but also enhancing our well-being.  With the continued popularity of "athleisure" clothing, consumers' thirst for comfort and ease of wear are today addressed by denim makers who use new technology to meet the need for clothes that perform well throughout the day and not just in the gym.
Hi Stretch and Bi Stretch denim from VICUNHA  TEXTIL of Brazil.
Denim maker VICUNHA from Brazil is doing just that by focusing on performance.  Following the introduction of their temperature control denim last season, VICUNHA continue to expand on the theme and launch a selection of hi tech and hi performance fabrics for Autumn/Winter 2018-19, which will be on show at major international trade fairs this September including Munich Fabric Start 5th - 7th September (in the Blue Zone).

Using hi tech  yarns  from Nilit  they  introduce  3  hi tech  fabrics with antibacterial,  moisture  wicking properties  and  temperature  control.

‘BODY  FRESH’  keeps  you  fresh  throughout  the  day, preventing the growth of bacteria that causes body odour. Extremely resilient its antimicrobial properties lasting at least 50 washes.

‘AQUARIUS’ with a high-performance yarn is engineered to wick moisture away from the body, offering comfort to the wearer for continued effectiveness.  The  attributes  are  intrinsic  in  the  fibre,  and  will  not  wash  off  the  fabric, according to VICUNHA.

‘BREEZE’ helps maintain constant body temperature during and after physical performance and hot weather. Use of a special polymer creates soft touch and provides super ventilation.

This  sector  of  products  is  very  important  for  the  market  as  finishing  techniques  push  the boundaries and the consumer demands clothing that performs through the day not just in the gym, according to executives at VICUNHA TEXTIL, driving the company to continue to pursue textile products in various weaves and weights.
“We see this trend (athleisure) continuing and  customers  growing  their  options  and  adding  new  weave  variations”,  says  Thomas Dislich, Managing Director VICUNHA TEXTIL for Europe and Asia.  "Hi Stretch and Bi Stretch are  still  very  important,  thus VICUNHA  extends its  offer  to  include  bi-stretches  with  higher elasticity adding more vintage options, and although the interest was initially for ladies we are also seeing this coming through for menswear”.

Italian fabric mill won prestigious award with a "Sparkling" denim collection

Italian manufacturer ITV Denim has won the prestigious Global Denim Awards 2016 for the second time thanks to its collaboration with Dutch designer Anbasja Blanken, who surprised the panel with a literally “sparkling” collection.  By treating denim from a semi-couture perspective, this collection addresses women directly, communicating strength, elegance and beauty, according to the company's press release.  While the title was awarded to the winning company and Anbasja Blanken received 10,000 euro.
ITV Denim collaorated with Dutch designer Anbasja Blanken to produce the winning collection.
The creative concept was developed on the basis of innovative experimentation on the yarn, aimed at achieving an actual “glow in the dark” effect.   This idea derives from the designer’s intent to recreate the fluorescence and bright light that many marine species are able to emit in the depths of the sea world, where the absence of light forms a stimulus for transformation.

The collection highlighted all the artisan skills of ITV Denim, featuring coral appliques, pearls, floral embroideries and luminescent woven fabrics, incorporating also the use of laser cutting and recycled fabrics.

This was the third edition of the Global Denim Awards which took place in Amsterdam on October 26 participated by 11 denim manufacturing companies in collaboration with as many designers, before an audience of 600 professionals from the denim international scene and a panel made up of denim experts and designers in The Netherlands.   A total of 11 Capsule Collections with five total looks were presented, showcasing special fabric treatments and washings.

Sunglasses made of 100% denim by VICUNHA X MOSEVIC

Across all segments and product groups of the fashion market, denim is proving more popular than ever. And now just as the weather is turning warmer, the latest must-have piece is not another pair of jeans (you may already own dozens of them) but a pair of ‘Solid Denim’ sunglasses.  How cool is that!

These sunglasses made of resin-infused layers of denim are the result of a partnership between  the Brazilian denim giant VICUNHA TEXTIL (whose customers include Hugo Boss, Diesel, Esprit, Salsa, as well as large retail giants like Marks&Spencer and C&A) and MOSEVIC, a young English company specialised in denim sunglasses.

MOSEVIC was established in 2015 by two friends, product designers Jack Spencer and Alex
Boswell, in Cornwall, in west England.  The frames of the solid sunglasses are made at MOSEVIC’s own workshop.

Depending on the model, there can be three to ten different layers of denim used.  These are bonded with resin and solidified before the glasses can be sanded into shape and polished by hand.  A single red layer in the bonded layers accentuates the frame with a hint of colour and highlights the edging. The co-branded stainless steel plate on the arm of the frame rounds off the design.

And this upcycling project is all in the name of sustainability. Some of the models are even made using denim from recycled jeans and plans are being made to convert the production entirely to upcycling in the future.  The handmade products are made from 100% BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton from the Brazilian factories which are industry leaders in their social responsibility and practice in environmental protection.

“We became aware of these innovative denim sunglasses last year, right after MOSEVIC
launched. A fantastic idea, which we as a global company instantly wanted to support and
encourage. But this collaboration isn’t just about promoting a young, innovative business, but
also about the production of a cool, socially responsible product. You could say it’s like
recycling, but on the very highest level with the best ambitions, style and coolness, combined
with environmental protection and social responsibility,” is how Thomas Dislich, Managing
Director of VICUNHA TEXTIL for Europe and Asia, sums up the cooperation with MOSEVIC.

The limited edition sunglasses by VICUNHA X MOSEVIC come in four frame styles for both mena and women, now available on the MOSEVIC website, on which there is also a video showing the process.
