Trade fairs such as the established
Maison & Objet, due to take place at Paris’ Villepinte (held last week from 17 to 21 January 2020) for interior and lifestyle designs, provide valuable worldwide exposure and networking opportunities for designers and brands but if your name is as well-known as
Tom Dixon, you can venture to unique new formats to give new experiences to existing clients while drawing in new audiences.

A psychedelic update of an Italian post-modernist aesthetic, the pop sensibility of SWIRL from Tom Dixon is created from a series of geometric forms stacked upon one another to create multi-dimensional, functional sculptures. The unique process involves recycling the powdered residue from the marble industry, mixed with pigment and resin to create blocks of material that can then be sawn, sliced and turned on a lathe.

Tom says: ‘”We have enjoyed having a stand at Maison & Objet for many years, but it’s now time to be more mobile, to be more flexible and reach new and existing audiences in a different way.
 |
| Stem, Small and Medium vases in the SWIRL collection are inspired by Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Anchored with a heavy base, the cylindrical vessels allow branches and flowers to cantilever out. |
‘24 Hours in Paris’ allowed Tom Dixon to maximise their time, pack as much fun and business into as short a time as possible and to react to the opportunities that the French capital has to offer.
"I love Paris and I have a dual or triple personality. I feel French when I feel revolutionary when I feel like a gourmand when I go to the art galleries and walk in the streets, when I have breakfast and when I’m cooking. I feel English when I play music or design. In the coming months, we want to roll out
’24 hours’ not just in Milan and Shanghai but also London, Copenhagen, Bangkok, Nanjing and Melbourne…,” explains Tom.

| PRESS is a series of heavyweight grooved vases, bowls and candleholders made of fat, chunky coils of pure and clear transparent glass. The thickest industrially pressed glass artefacts designed and engineered to catch and refract light, and to last forever. |
 |
| Bold in silhouette and simple in the function, PRESS are manufactured by dropping big globs of molten glass at 1,200 degrees centigrade and pressed in two- or three-part iron moulds to create immediately familiar silhouettes. |
Tom Dixon’s new format also pulled in collaborations with notable creatives. Renowned Paris-based florist
Debeaulieu will create exclusive floral arrangements to compliment their new vases.
